Bangladesh Islamist Ghulam Azam, 91 has been sentenced to 90 years in prison on charges of war crimes.

Azam, was accused of setting up militia groups that carried out mass killings and rape during Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence with Pakistan.

According to Huffington Post, a special tribunal of three judges said that Azam deserved capital punishment, but received a jail sentence instead because of his advanced age.
