A police official killed, five injured in a Maoist attack in Maharashtra

A police official was killed and five others were injured in an ambush while the police team was returning a day after casting their votes in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

As the country gets ready to enter the fourth phase of elections, threat of Maoists loomed large as the rebels carried out attacks in different places.

Maoists carried out a similar attack in Khunti district of Jharkhand where journalist-activist candidate of Aam Aadmi Party Dayamani Barla was attacked by members of rebel outfit People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) who also threatened to kill Barla and other party members if they continued with their election campaigning.

In Jharkhand, the elections are being held in three phases - April 10, April 17 and April 24.

Superintendent of Police, Khunti, Anish Gupta said an application has been filed in the case.

"Through the party candidate, Dayamani Barla, I have filed an application mentioning that her campaign vehicle in the headquarters of the police station was attacked and blackmailed by members of PLFI who were on bikes," said Gupta.

Meanwhile, dangerous explosives and tankers were recovered during a search operation in in Dumka district of Jharkhand.

Deputy Commissioner of Kathikund police station in Dumka, Harsh Mangla, said they conducted an inquiry after they received information about a suspicious vehicle was found.

"We were told via SDO (sub-divisional officer) that a vehicle has been found with its address missing. I asked them to inquire more into this and lodge a case in this regard. I don't have information about the case being lodged but definitely a strict action will be taken on it," said Mangla.
