The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has begun a massive rally at Jantar Mantar today to demand fresh elections in Delhi, which has been under Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's rule after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the chief minister's post.
Speaking to ANI, Aam Aadmi Party leader Dilip Pandey said, "I think this time, the people of Delhi are feeling that their biggest problem is that they don't have an elected and honest government, that's why they are coming here, which is a symbol that the biggest need here is of accountability."
"Everything is becoming expensive here, there is inflation and price rise. But nobody is ready to accept responsibility for it. If there was an elected government then that would have been held accountable. It is the right of the Delhi citizens to have an elected government."
Pandey added that he hoped that the BJP, which is running the city from the centre, will listen to the people of Delhi and take steps to ensure fresh elections.
Earlier today, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh had also requested the citizens of Delhi to assemble at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to demand fresh elections.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is also scheduled to address the rally, which is taking place at Jantar Mantar, to question the BJP for the reason behind delaying assembly elections and denying the people of Delhi their right to elect the government.
The BJP had won 31 seats in the assembly polls in December last year but its number came down to 28 in the 70-member house after three of its legislators including Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, were elected to Lower House of the Parliament.
