As the infighting within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) intensified with allegations and counter allegations, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Saturday backed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and said that a negative campaign has been launched against the latter.
"It is weird that Prashant Bhushan and Shanti Bhushan ji with the help of an audio tape is launching a campaign against the person, who has risen from a mass movement and given a major blow to the two big political parties of the country," he said.
"When will the politics of tape differ from the politics of the country," he added while commenting on the recorded conversation between Kejriwal and party volunteer Umesh Singh in which the Delhi Chief Minister calls his detractors names.
In further escalation of infighting within the AAP, Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav had yesterday hit out at Kejriwal, accusing him of stifling internal democracy and adopting unfair means to capture power.
The duo alleged that any issue raised by them was being projected as questioning Kejriwal's leadership and attempts to remove him from the post of AAP's national convener.
Later in the day, the tussle got murkier after a secretly-taped phone conversation was leaked in which the AAP chief is heard abusing Bhushan and Yadav and threatening to exit the party with 67 Delhi MLAs.
