Protesting against the Land Acquisition ordinance, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yogendra Yadav on Tuesday presented packets of salt to all Members of the Parliament (MPs), stating that those in power should not forget the contributions of farmers.
"We are giving a packet of salt to all our MPs to remind them that they are here because of farmers and they must not betray the interest of the farmers," Yadav told ANI here.
"In Haryana, we have been leading a 'Jai Kisaan Abhiyan' and it has raised four issues of farmers. One: an opposition to the Land Ordinance Act; two: an opposition to Haryana's new rule which has reduced the compensation of the farmers by half; three: the injustice done to farmers on Urea; and four, teh non-fulfilment of the promise of 50 paise addition to the cost for prices of crops," he added.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal joined social activist Anna Hazare at his protest against the Central government's Land Acquisition ordinance.
"The Land Acquisition ordinance is anti-farmers and anti-poor, we strongly condemn it. If this Land Acquisition ordinance is passed, this Government will act like a property dealer for big corporate honchos," Kejriwal said, while addressing fellow protestors at the Jantar Mantar.
