The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the suicide of a farmer during a rally here on Wednesday.

"We want to ask all the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, sir (Arvind Kejriwal), you are ruling Delhi today and when the doctor said that Gajendra was brought dead, does not the chief minister of Delhi know that he was brought dead? You knew all the while, as many of your top leaders in Delhi and ministers in Delhi knew that Gajendra was dead. Yet you kept on saying that we will finish our speeches and then we will go and see as to what has happened to Gajendra," said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government of punishing the farmers, while adding that his party was always with them.

"The Modi Government helps their crony corporates. In Parliament, they said suicides aren't taking place. I want to tell the farmers and labourers not to worry, the Congress party is with them. We will help them," Gandhi said at the Lady Hardinge Hospital here.

"Farmers are being punished by the Modi government. Foundation of the country has been laid by the farmers. We will fight the ordinance, we won't let the BJP government just take the land of our poor farmers," he added.

The Congress vice-president's comments came after a farmer from Rajasthan committed suicide by hanging himself at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP ) rally in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was among the hundreds of people who witnessed the spectre.
