Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav on Monday said the Delhi Police and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung are out to catch and victimise the Aam Aadmi Party. His comments came after the arrest of AAP MLA Gulab Singh Yadav.

He, however, conceded that the actions of AAP MLA's have given the Bharatiya Janata Party an opportunity to target them.

"On the one hand both Delhi Police and the L-G are out to catch and victimise AAP MLAs and if they were to apply the same criteria I think half of the BJP MPs should also be in jail right now. At the same time it is true that the conduct of these MLAs has given an opportunity to the BJP and the Central Government to intervene and that should worry us. It should worry us that the central government is out to victimise the state party," Yadav said.

Yadav said the AAP, which emerged at the centre stage of politics with the promise of bringing alternative politics, has turned out to be no different from any other party.

The Matiala legislator was arrested in connection with an extortion case against his aides after he turned himself in before the Gujarat Police on Sunday.

He was arrested hours before the party national convener Arvind Kejriwal's maiden rally in Surat.

Kejriwal said the arrest of the Singh, facing a non-bailable warrant, was intended to "scuttle" his rally and accused the BJP President Amit Shah of "trying to disrupt his Surat programme".
