Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has held meeting with Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud during the closing ceremony of the military exercise Gulf Shield-1 in Saudi Arabia's Dammam on Monday.

The two figures discussed matters pertaining to regional security and mutual interest at the meeting, reported Geo TV.

Abbasi was accompanied by Pakistan's Defence Minister Khurram Dastagir, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI Director General Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar during his two-day visit to the Kingdom.

Twenty-four countries participated in the Gulf Shield-1 military exercise, which continued for nearly a month and aimed at strengthening "military and security cooperation and coordination" among the regional countries.

According to the several media reports, the drills are being termed as one of the largest military exercises in the region, aimed at "raising level of preparedness; enhancing mutual coordination and cooperation among the participating countries, exchange of expertise and security integration".

"The exercise featured two types of military operations; conventional military operations that involved coastal defence attacks against the enemy, besides the irregular war operations carried out by besieging and penetrating villages and industrial installations to cleanse them of hostile elements," the report quoted spokesman for Joint Gulf Shield-1, Brig Gen Abdullah Al-Subaie, as saying.
