ABC Family is not moving forward with their drama pilot of new series 'Alice in Arabia.'
ABC Family spokesperson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter said that the current conversation surrounding the pilot of the new series was not what they had envisioned and it was certainly not conducive to the creative process, so they decided not to move forward with the project.
The recently ordered pilot had come under fire from Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization CAIR after Buzzfeed described the show being about a US teen girl kidnapped by her extended royal Saudi Arabian family and forced to live with them.
CAIR's Los Angeles office said that they had asked ABC Family to have a meeting with the leaders in the Muslim community for discussions regarding concerns about potential stereotyping in the TV pilot.
