India's ambassador to Afghanistan, Amar Sinha has said that the abducted Indian aid worker has not been released but is fine and his release is being closely tracked by the authorities.

Sinha told ANI that the abducted aid worker, Prem Kumar, is somewhere close to Herat only and they are working with Afghan agencies to get him released.

Kumar was the Afghanistan Director of a charity called Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) and had been kidnapped in Herat. Efforts to release him since the past 14 days have mostly proved futile.

Regarding the security threats faced by the Indian embassy, especially after the recent attack on Indian consulate, Sinha said that Herat was not first attack and nor will be last.

He called it the handiwork of Laskhar-e-Taiba and reiterated that the security has not been increased in terms of numbers but in terms of quality and procedures.
