Jagmati Sangwan, general secretary of the All India Women's Association (AIDWA), today strongly denounced the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl in a Bokaro village at the orders of the village head.

Sangwan told ANI, "This is very unfortunate. This is a very barbaric and heinous crime. We strongly demand that in such cases stringent punishment should be given so that it does not get repeated again. Even whole panchayat should be investigated and actions should be taken against them who are giving such decisions. A draft of bill is pending with central government. Now they should proceed with that which will curb community violence."

Ali Anwar of the Janata Dal (United) also condemned the incident in strong words. He told ANI, "This is a very shameful incident. The mukhiya (head) should be given such punishment that whole country remembers him. After speedy trial he should be given punishment of hanging to death. It should become an example that it should not happen again."

Reports have surfaced that a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Bokaro's Swang Gulgulia Dhoura village by a neighbour who had earlier allegedly tried to molest her mother.

The gruesome incident was reportedly carried out at the behest of the village head, when the accused complained to him about being thrashed by the victim's father earlier.
