Women rights activists and senior lawyers Pramila Nesargi and Abha Singh said on Monday that since reports have confirmed the involvement of more than one person in Lucknow's Mohanlal Ganj rape case, strict action must be taken against the officers who tried to derail the reports earlier.
Nesargi told ANI, "Whosoever is in power just wants to hush up these things. Initially, police of every state will deny the reports of rape. In the Mohanlal Ganj rape case as well, earlier the police denied the reports of gang rape. But now when the forensic reports have come up, they can't hide it. So the police had to accept the truth."
Women rights activist and senior lawyer Abha Singh told ANI, "The report of Mohanlal gang rape has come out which says two people have raped this woman. Five samples are yet to come. What is shocking is that the senior police officers of UP have tried to derail the investigation. They misguided the investigation by saying that there was no rape."
Demanding an action against the police officers Singh told ANI, "Action should be taken against all the police officers who have given out false information only with the reason to safeguard the government interest. These officers should be tried under section 217 of the Indian Penal Court which talks of imprisonment up to two years for wrong facts to protect the accused,"

Earlier, it was speculated that the woman was gang-raped before the murder, due to multiple injuries and stab wounds found on her private parts, but police had claimed there was only one accused involved in the crime and his attempt to rape before killing had failed.
Ram Sewak, a security guard, with a private company, has been detained as the accused in the case. Police said Sewak wanted to approach the woman but could not do so fearing his low social status, so he concealed his identity and convinced the victim to meet her at night.
The victim was beaten brutally after she resisted the rape attempt, and later died of hemorrhage due to excessive bleeding.
