President of Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council and actor Vishal on Monday filed his nomination as an independent candidate for R K Nagar Assembly polls with the aim of doing "good for the people".
"I want to be the people's representative to do good for them and fulfill all their requests and wishes," he said after filling his nomination as an independent candidate for R K Nagar Assembly bypoll.
The seat of R K Nagar was lying vacant following the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2016, who represented it for two terms.
The election was earlier scheduled on April 12, but was cancelled following vote-for-cash scam.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra (AIADMK) has won seven out of 11 times in the constituency in the last 40 years.
This time two faces of AIADMK -- T T V Dinakaran from Sasikala faction and E Madhusudhanan from EPS-OPS faction -- are in the fray for the seat.
