The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday clarified that their controversial campaign advertisement portraying Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, was in context of the party's anarchist behaviour adding that the latter had however, twisted it into a religious and casteist overtone.
"An advertisement by the Bharatiya Janata Party which alluded to the Aam Aadmi Party's anarchist and obstructionist behaviour which alluded to their threats to disrupt Republic Day last year and in that context spoke about the anarchist attitude mindset and behaviour of the AAP has sought to be twisted by the AAP into religious and casteist overtone which is deplorable," BJP leader Piyush Goyal told the media persons here.
"We have highlighted to the Election Commission about the very unfortunate incidents of use of caste in the election process which is in violation of the election code of conduct," he added.
The union minister also said that a complaint has been sent to the Election Commission and that the party has appealed for immediate action.
The latest campaign advertisement published by the BJP described Kejriwal as a person of anarchist 'gotra' (sub-caste). On this, the AAP has accused the BJP of targeting Kejriwal's caste in the advertisement that shows him threatening to disrupt the Republic Day parade one year and asking for a VIP pass for the next year's parade.
