Pakistani wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal has reportedly been ruled out of the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka in UAE after he fractured a finger.

Akmal caught Sri Lankan opener Kaushal Silva for 81 in the last over of the third day of the first Test and appeared to hurt his finger, which on X-ray later revealed a fracture

According to The Dawn, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) statement said that Akmal hurt himself in Abu Dhabi on Thursday and has fractured his left hand's index finger, for which he has been ruled out for rest of the three-Test series.

The statement further said that the national selection committee has decided to send Sarfraz Ahmed, who was part of Pakistan's one-day squad during the tour of Zimbabwe in August this year, to join the Test squad as Akmal's replacement.

The report mentioned that Ahmed, who has so far played four Tests, would join the squad in time for the second Test starting in Dubai from January 8.

The third Test will be played in Sharjah from January 16-20, the report added.
