Afghan chief executive urges Pak to continue crackdown on Islamist extremists

Afghanistan's chief executive Abdullah Abdullah has urged Pakistan in his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to keep the crack down on Islamist extremists going as they were responsible for cross-border attacks and destabilising the war-torn country.

According to The Dawn, the chief executive's statement came hours after the Taliban captured the strategic northern Afghan city of Kunduz in a multi-pronged attack involving hundreds of fighters.

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is also among the groups that are sowing terror in Afghanistan, Abdullah said.

The Afghan leader expressed optimism that the insurgency would be defeated, saying "these attempts will eventually fail to subdue us.
