The war in Afghanistan is causing an increase in casualties, said Georgette Gagnon, Director of Human Rights for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
The conflict in Afghanistan has caused an increase of 24 percent compared to the first half of 2013. The United Nations recorded 1,564 deaths and 3,284 injured which sums up to a 24 percent overall increase in casualties, said Gagnon.
United States is eventually withdrawing military bases spread across Afghanistan after war for more than a decade against the Taliban.
The country has witnessed violence in densely populated regions with injuries caused by rocket-propelled grenades, small arms fire and mortars. The violence has seen a dramatic increase in the first half of this year.
The U.N. reports came while a political crisis unfurls in Afghanistan threatening a complete unrest with supporters of the two presidential candidates go confronting each other.
