Former tennis great John McEnroe has said there is a possibility that 2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray could reunite with former coach Ivan Lendl following his exit from this year's championship.

Murray lost in straight sets to Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday.

Under the guidance of Lendl, one of McEnroe's fiercest rivals in the 1980s, Murray became a two-time Grand Slam champion, winning the 2012 U.S. Open and Wimbledon.

But with Lendl having taken Murray from contender to winner, the pair parted company in March, reports the BBC.

Shortly before Wimbledon, Murray stunned many by hiring France's Amelie Mauresmo.

Three-time Wimbledon champion McEnroe, now a respected commentator, said it was too soon to make a judgement on Mauresmo's coaching of Murray, but added it would not surprise him to see Lendl brought back into the 27-year-old's camp.

McEnroe's said he was amazed when Murray and Lendl parted ways.
