Everyone gets older, but for women there are certain aspects of the aging process that they dread, like facial hair and painful sex.
When the Huffington Post asked Ranella Hirsch, MD, to explain why many women are, at some point, plagued by errant hairs on their chin or upper lip, Hirsch said that the growth can be exacerbated by age-related hormonal fluctuations and it is totally normal.
Urologist Melissa R. Kaufman, MD, explained that sex becomes painful for menopausal women since body loses estrogen with age, the lining of the vagina starts to thin, and the tissues become red and irritated.
Hirsch also gave an explanation for why older women bruise more easily, asserting that age makes blood vessels more fragile, and so does tissue damage due to sun exposure.
Hirsch added that the gaunt-looking face, despite being healthy, is because of the loss of fat and tissue in the face while aging.
