After the members of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other groups ransacked the police stations and hurled stones on policemen demanding release of five men in Agra, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday asserted that this incident is the worst ever after Independence.
"Whatever had happened to the police. It was a shameful act and this incident is worst ever after Independence," Akhilesh said at a press conference in Lucknow.
Further taking a jibe at the incumbent Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government, Akhilesh stated that the new colour which is in power has been creating all this trouble.
"The new 'Saffron' colour in town is cresting the entire row in the state. Whoever carries this colour around their neck seems to get license to rule the state," he added.
As many as fourteen persons were arrested earlier on Sunday by the police after a case was registered against over 200 people for attacking Sadar Bazaar and Fatehpur Sikri police stations in Agra.
The police later registered cases against 30 people belonging to these groups and 200 other unidentified persons on charges of dacoity, unlawful assembly, rioting, obstructing a public servant in discharge of his duty and causing damage by fire.
The five men were detained for allegedly harassing some people belonging to the minority community.
