With Independence Day around the corner, the Delhi Police on Monday issued an order prohibiting flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons and many more till the second week of October.

Delhi Police in a statement said, "It has been reported that certain criminal, anti-social elements or terrorists, inimical to India may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations by the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small size powered aircrafts, quadcopters or even by para-jumping from aircraft and others."

The statement further announced the prohibition of flying of such objects on the occasion of Independence Day Celebration in the national capital and doing so shall be punishable under law.

The statement further read, "This order shall remain in force till October 15 unless withdrawn earlier."

Special teams of police will be stationed on August 15 to neutralise the possibility of any airborne-activity such as drones. Heightened security arrangements will be put in place for the celebrations at the historic Red Fort this year in wake of terrorists striking crowded places worldwide.
