National carrier Air India is taking all necessary steps to cut down the cost to save and maximise revenues. All officers and staff visiting overseas may stay in rooms on a twin sharing basis.
A circular issued on July 30th says, "All officers and staff deputed overseas for ground duty during Haj operations shall stay in hotel accommodation on a twin sharing basis. The concerned Head of departments shall ensure the same."
Earlier, the officers and staff used separate rooms according to their grade.
Air India has a debt of Rs. 51,000 crore as on March 31, 2016. The national carrier is estimated to have posted an operating profit of Rs. eight crore in 2015-16.
It ran up losses to the tune of Rs 5,859.91 crore in 2014-15. The improvement is anticipated mainly on account of a steep fall in the jet fuel price, which accounts for 40 percent of an airline's operating expenses.
