Air strikes in Khyber Agency, N Waziristan leave 30 militants dead

At least thirty militants were reportedly killed in targeted air strikes in Khyber Agency and North Waziristan early Saturday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release that at 2 AM, aircraft destroyed two hideouts close to the Pak- Afghan border in Khyber Agency killing 10 terrorists. At 5 AM, three hideouts were destroyed in Hassu Khel in North Waziristan, killing 15 terrorists, the Dawn reported.

The statement further said that all strikes were made in areas, which had no civil population.

Earlier, the Zarb-i-Azb military operation launched by the Pakistan army in North Waziristan had left at least 232 suspected militants dead.

Twenty militant hideouts were destroyed while eight security personnel were killed, and seven others injured during the operation.

According to military sources, the operation is ongoing in Miramshah and Mir Ali and militants' attempts to escape have been foiled. The ISPR says that troops have cordoned off all areas in North Waziristan to foil attempts by terrorists to flee the tribal agency, the Dawn reports.

The report says that the Pakistan army successfully destroyed two major terrorist communication centers located on the hills and a bomb-making factory.

Operation ' Zarb-i-Azb was launched last week against local and foreign militants in North Waziristan on the directions of the Pakistan government.
