All India Radio's (AIR's) tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at a time when the nation in particular, and the world in general, is celebrating 100 years of his return to India will be showcased in a novel 100-episode series being aired from January 9 on its FM network.
The research based series is produced by veteran broadcaster Madhuker Upadhyay and devoted to recreate the atmosphere of 1915, the year in which Gandhiji returned from South Africa to India.
Each episode has a unique dimension. Fluidity in the narration by Upadhyay helps in visualising the ethos of the period that led Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi Bhartiya, to become 'The Mahatma'.
Each narrative will highlight simple facts like why there were 365 of quietness in Gandhi's life after returning from South Africa? Why his eyes which were filled with enthusiasm and zeal had a forlorn look when he did not see his political guru Gopal Krishna Gokhale? How long this time frame of "observe and absorb" was there in Gandhi's life?
All these and many other unknown stories of Gandhi's life will be captured by the writer and the producer of "Khamoshi ki Daastan" or "Chronicle of the Quiet Days".
The episodes will aired at 8.30 a.m. on the FM Rainbow Network and at 9.15 a.m. on the FM Gold Network.
Madhuker Upadhyay has to his credit many memorable radio features for the BBC.
