World Health Organisation has revealed that more than 3 million people have died globally due to alcohol use in 2012.

According to the report, the reasons of death ranged from cancer to violence and the agency has called on governments to do more to limit the damage, the New York Daily News reported.

The global status report on alcohol and health, which covered 194 countries and looked at alcohol consumption, its impact on public health and policy responses, found that every person in the world aged 15 years or older drinks 6.2 liters of pure alcohol per year.

Oleg Chestnov, a WHO expert on chronic disease and mental health, said that more needs to be done to protect populations from the negative health consequences of alcohol consumption and there was no room for complacency.
