The all-party meeting held today ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament unanimously expressed concern over the Supreme Court judgments on the issue of reservations and disqualification of jailed Members of Parliament thereby questioning the supremacy of Parliament.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath, who was talking to media here after the all-party meeting, said there are serious concerns broadly being expressed which need to be addressed by the Parliament.

"In fact, there was almost complete unanimity ....relating to two judgements of the Supreme Court on the issue of reservations and on the issue of disqualification even if you are in custody for one night. There has been concerns expressed on the erosion of the supremacy of Parliament and political parties want government to respond to it," said Nath.

"There is almost complete unanimity on the important legislation that we proposed to bring which is the five ordinances, including the Food Security Bill and the Land Acquisition Bill," he added.

The Centre had convened today's all-party meeting for the smooth conduct of business in the Monsoon session of Parliament beginning on August 5.

The government is keen to pass some key economic reform bills during the Monsoon session of Parliament besides the Food Security Ordinance and Land Acquisition Bill.
