The Allahabad High Court today put a stay on interviews for the Pradesh Public Civil Services (UPPCS) Exam 2011.

The court also reserved its verdict on the State Public Service Commission's policy of opening unreserved category vacancies for reserved candidates.

A final decision will come in ten days time.

This came on a day when Allahabad was tense as protesters both pro and anti new policy were waiting for the order.

The administration had imposed Section 144 in the city.

The new reservation policy proposes caste-based quotas from preliminary exams stage itself. Those who oppose the new policy allege it was aimed at benefiting members of those castes, which have been traditional voters of the ruling Samajwadi Party in the state.

More than 1,000 students vandalised shops and vehicles in Allahabad on July 15 as they protested against the proposed reservation in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).

Students reportedly destroyed 12 government buses. They alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government was discriminating against general category students while students from only one caste were getting government jobs in the state.
