The alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi has been released from Pakistan's Adiala jail.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) struck down the detention order of prime Mumbai terror blasts accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and ordered his release on April 9.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Lakhvi challenging his fourth one-month detention ordered by the Okara DCO on March 14.

The news came a day after LHC asked the Punjab government to present "sensitive" documents regarding Lakhvi's activities. The government had earlier argued that Lakhvi had been kept in custody on the basis of "'sensitive information" provided by intelligence agencies.

However, after examining the "sensitive information," the court dismissed the detention order saying that if the information was reliable then, the Islamabad High Court would not have accepted Lakhvi's bail.

The court therefore, ordered his release based on the lack of reliability of the sensitive information provided and also directed the accused to pay 20 lakh rupees in surety bonds to Adiala jail.

Lakhvi is among seven people charged with planning and carrying out the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
