'Almost all' Pak banks hacked in security breach: FIA cybercrime head

In an unprecedented revelation, the Chief of Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) cybercrime revealed that customer data of almost all Pakistani Banks was stolen in a security breach on Tuesday.

According to Geo News, Director of Cyber Crime Wing of FIA, Mohammad Shoaib said, "Almost all [Pakistani] banks' data has been breached. According to the reports that we have, most of the banks have been affected."

Dawn quoted Shoaib saying, foreign hackers breached the security systems of several local banks. He further added, "The hackers have stolen large amounts of money from people's accounts."

He further told Dawn, that around 100 such cases have been reported with the cyber crime watchdog and several arrests have also been made. He also said that the bank representatives are also being summoned for discussing the major security breach.

According to local media reports, Concerns about a breach of credit and debit card data spread in the banking circles, after a cyber attack on Bank Islami last week that siphoned off at least Rs2.6 million from its accounts.
