Asserting that the Akali-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance was the most unholy and opportunistic alliance, Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday asked BJP candidate Arun Jaitley to explain what he meant by "social alliance" between the two.
He said Jaitley had virtually admitted that it was an alliance between two communal parties claiming to be the sole representatives of two different communities, the Sikhs and the Hindus.
On Tuesday while commenting on Captain's view about the BJP - SAD alliance, Arun Jaitley had said, "The BJP -SAD is much more to the political alliance ...it s social alliance which has brought peace to the Punjab."
Capt Amarinder also pointed out that Jaitley has obviously tried to indicate that while the Akalis exclusively represent the Sikh community the BJP exclusively represents the Hindu community.
"There cannot be a franker admission than that by Jaitely today that the two parties represent sectarian agenda", he remarked.
He said Jaitley was trying to divert the attention from the inherent contradictions within the alliance particularly after the release of the election manifesto of the BJP which has listed several things which are quite contrary to the Akalis' ideology.

"These rather strike at the foundation of the Akali ideology and yet they have to suffer the indignity of supporting and praising it", he remarked about the plight of the Akalis.
The senior Congress leader also said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was finding it difficult to explain his position vis-a-vis BJP manifesto particularly in regard to the Article 370, Uniform Civil Code and construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
"But Mr Badal will have to take a stand as he can't sail on two boats", Captain asserted.
"I have asked both Mr Badal and Mr Jaitley to explain their position and both are trying to avoid these questions which they cannot avoid for long as their double standards will be exposed," he added.
