British two-time world champion boxer Amir Khan has said that he wants to inspire fans to demand a bout between himself and unbeaten US boxing champion Floyd Mayweather.

However, Mayweather is still eyeing a lucrative showdown with Filipino boxer and politician Manny Pacquiao. Khan will go up against Devon Alexander in Las Vegas on Saturday and he is hoping that an explosive victory would prompt increased calls for him to face five-weight world champion Mayweather.

Khan said that he wants the boxing fans around the world to demand a fight between him and Mayweather, adding that he wants them to demand it when they see him in such a good fight, The BBC reported.

Bolton fighter Khan continued that the fans are going to be like, 'wow, he should fight Mayweather'. He claimed that he doesn't just want it to happen, he wants people demanding it, admitting that it's going to be a tough fight against Alexander but adding that he doesn't just want to win it, he wants to win it in style.

The obvious flaw in Khan's plan is Mayweather's desire to face Filipino star Pacquiao in May, in what could become the richest fight in boxing history.

Mayweather said that they want the fight, they are ready, adding that let them make it happen on May 2, 'Mayweather versus Pacquiao'.

The American said that he is not ducking or dodging any opponent, adding that he wanted that fight a long time ago and he is just waiting on them.
