With an aim to promote sports among youth, Noida-based Amity University has organized a five-day-long North Zone Inter University Tennis Tournament for women in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities.
The event was inaugurated by Professor (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Professor Dr. Kalpana Sharma, Organizing Secretary, North Zone Inter University Tennis (Women) Tournament; Dr. Sanjeev Bansal, Director, Amity Business School and Col. Kesar Singh, Director- Sports, Amity University.
Welcoming the participants, Professor Sharma thanked the AIU for hosting the tournament at the Amity Campus.
She said 21 teams from various universities from across the North Zone are participating in the tournament, including Lucknow University, Chandigarh University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Aligarh Muslim University and the University of Allahabad to name a few.
Professor Shukla said India is surging ahead in the field of sports, and added that if India wants to be reckoned as a "super sports power", the sports players and sports events need to be supported and promoted big time.
She further added that the tournament would provide an opportunity to a number of budding Tennis Player who would display their stamina, skills and above all participation with fairness.
