The South African cricket management has revealed that batsman Hashim Amla has sustained a Grade 1 strain to his left groin muscle while playing in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo, and will be put under intensive treatment and rehab to give him the best possible chance of playing in the third or fourth ODI in Kandy.

According to sport24, Amla fell awkwardly while fielding on the boundary and was immediately taken to the hospital for a scan.

Proteas team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said that Hashim reported discomfort in the pelvic and groin region after jarring his left knee into the ground and an MRI scan revealed the injury.

The manager added that injuries of this nature usually took 3-7 days to recover.
