Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Amy Berg along with actor Nate Parker and writer-director Matthew Cooke are working on a documentary about the "black male crisis."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project will center on the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo, along with the deaths of other unarmed black men over the past few years, including Trayvon Martin, Ramarley Graham and Eric Garner.
Only a day after a grand jury ruled not to charge Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson despite his fatally shooting Brown in August, the filmmakers set up an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for the project.
The decision about Wilson had also sparked protests in Ferguson and across the country, with many Hollywood stars too expressing outrage at the decision on social media.
The project has already managed to raise 3,115 dollars of its 25,000 dollars goal so far, and would continue to be funded through January 5, 2015.
Indiegogo page stated that their our goal is to capture a moment that months prior to any grand jury verdict was already destined to set a nation on edge, and the docu-series would illuminate the magnitude of this pattern of the murder of black males in our country.
According to the reports, the documentary would include interviews, news excerpts and historical footage, and the filmmakers aim to give voice to the victims, showing how little had changed in post-Civil Rights America.
