Olivier Award winner and three-time Tony nominee Andy Karl has been announced the new leading man for the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of 'Pretty Woman'.
As per the Hollywood Reporter, Karl will portray Edward Lewis, which was played onscreen by Richard Gere, opposite Samantha Barks as Vivian Ward, played onscreen by Julia Roberts.
The report further says that 'Pretty Woman: The Musical' features an original score by Bryan Adams and his long-time song-writing partner Jim Vallance, with a book by Garry Marshall, the helmer of the 1990 rom-com and screenwriter J.F. Lawton.
Karl took to Twitter to share his excitement, "Super excited to be joining the Broadway company of @prettywoman and to be working with @jammyprod and @official_orfeh again! #fullout #RodeoDriveBaby"
Speaking about Karl, the show's director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell said, "Andy Karl is one of the funniest and most heart-warming actors I have had the pleasure of directing."
"He is an actor of great integrity and finds the humanity in the characters he plays, plus he has an incredible voice," he added, as quoted in the report.
The production will begin the previews in July at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre, and official opening night is set to be on August 16.
