Anganwadi female workers hold protest against authorities in Shimla

Hundreds of Anganwadi female workers and scores of women from different corners of Himachal Pradesh gathered outside the Labour office in Shimla and protested against the state authorities over being given low wages.

These rural women here are working for the children development projects run by state and union governments and are protesting for their demands. These women are sitting on hunger strike for past 12 days.

These women are demanding increase in the wages; to fill the posts of workers, provide the increased wages to the women workers at Anganwadi and their helpers, increase in their retirement age and also for the demand of food and nutrition of Children in the state.

These women feel deprived and ignored even after being given their services to the state for over 40 years now. These protesting women have threatened an aggressive movement in the state if their demands are not fulfilled before May 5.

In Himachal Pradesh, there are over 40,000 female Anganwadi workers and helpers working in the villages.
