The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday ordered a complete ban on animal sacrifice, which is still rampant in various places of religious worship in the state.
The court was hearing a PIL seeking a complete ban on animal sacrifice. The petitioner had photographs which projected the magnitude of the menace when such sacrifices take place on religious occasions.
A two-judge division bench of the high court, comprising of Justices Rajiv Sharma and Sureshwar Thakur, directed all deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, sub-divisional officers and station house officers to comply with the directions and see that the ban is enforced effectively. The court further said that the state government needs to educate people about the menace and to take steps to curb this social evil.
