Asserting that an attempt was made to weaken the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said the former should not be weakened and allowed to function as it has been doing earlier for the last 22 years.
"In Delhi, an attempt was made to weaken the ACB. But the people of Delhi would be very happy that the assembly has given its views that the ACB should not be weakened. And if anywhere there is corruption then the right which the Anti-Corruption Branch had since 22 years should continue," Sisodia said.
"This would help to operate the anti-corruption helpline," he added.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Assembly passed a resolution seeking withdrawal of the MHA notification curtailing powers of the ACB.
The MHA had earlier on July 23, 2014, issued a notification stating that the 1993 announcement permitting ACB to probe cases under the Prevention of Corruption (PoC) Act will only be applicable to officials of the Delhi Government.
