Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged the 'anti-poor' BJP- led government at the Centre has failed to fulfill the promises it made to the nation, adding that the Prime Minister is more concerned about the business class and is least bothered about the downtrodden.
"Narendra Modi keeps making big statements and slogans like 'Make in India', 'Connect India', 'Clean India' etc. Every tenth day, he comes up with big slogans. But you will never see his photograph with the poor people of this country. You will never see him meeting the poor and downtrodden," Rahul said.
The Congress vice-president, who was addressing his party workers at Gohpur in Assam's Sonitpur district, also alleged that Prime Minister Modi has failed to fulfill the promises made to the nation during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
"Modi ji doesn't care about the poor and downtrodden. He only cares about some selected businessmen. He keeps on talking about the future and doesn't speak about the present. Today, there is inflation in the country and what he talks about is making promises which he would be doing in the future," he added.
The Congress vice-president, who arrived in Assam today on a two day visit, also alleged that Prime Minister Modi only helps the businessmen and not the poor.
"He never fulfils his promises. You will never see a picture of him with farmers, holding hands of laborers. The BJP always make an Indian fight with another Indian," he said.
The Congress vice-president would also be addressing rallies at Bihpuria and Titabor today. He will take part in a padyatra at Sivsagar tomorrow and also address a public rally.
Gandhi's visit is expected to boost up the party's morale ahead of this year's assembly polls in Assam.
