Software manufacturer Apple has reportedly abandoned its pursuit of lawsuit regarding the use of 'AppStore' as a name by Amazon for its own products.

Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said that the company sees no need to pursue the case any further as with more than 900,000 apps and 50 billion downloads, customers know where they can purchase their favorite apps, the Daily Express reports.

According to the report, Apple had launched their App Store for iOS devices in July 2008, while Amazon launched their Amazon Appstore for Andriod in March 2011.

In response, Apple launched their lawsuit against Amazon that same month accusing Amazon of misusing the app store name, while Amazon said it was a generic term and could not be labelled false advertising.

Lawyer for Amazon, Martin Glick said that the decision was taken by Apple to unilaterally abandon the case, and leave Amazon free to use the name 'appstore', the report added.
