The Army on Tuesday engaged two separate groups of militants along the Indo-Myanmar border, inflicting significant casualties on them.
"Early this morning, the Indian Army engaged two separate groups of militants along the Indo-Myanmar border. This was done at two different locations, along the Nagaland and Manipur border. Significant casualties have been inflicted on the militants," said Major General Ranbir Singh.
"In the course of the last few days, very credible and specific intelligence had been recovered regarding further attacks. These attacks were to be carried out by groups that had been involved in attacks on security forces earlier and their allies," he added.
"We are in communication with Myanmar authorities and we have traditionally had close relationship with the Myanmar army. We look forward to working with them to combating terrorism in future too," he further said.
The action comes days after a militant ambush in Manipur led to the death of 18 army personnel and injured 11 others.
The ambush, which was one of the most deadly attacks in the region in recent years, occurred at around 8.30 am on June 4, when the army's convoy was travelling between Paralong and Charong villages.
The Central government later handed over the probe into the attacks to the National Investigation Agency.
