An Indian army officer, Ajay Sharma, said it was an opportunity for the local youth to join the armed forces to serve the nation.

"People are very excited. The recruitment rally is especially for Rajouri and Poonch. Nearly 8,500 to 9,000 people came to participate on the first day," said Sharma.

The candidates were subjected to physical measurement such as height, weight and chest before going through physical tests. Later they would be put to medical test before recruitment.

"We are grateful to people who thought about our employment. Those candidates, who have fulfilled the criteria, have advanced further after physical and medical tests during the recruitment process," said a candidate, Shaukat Ahmed.
