The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief E V K S Elangovan's remark on former union minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti clearly indicates that dissenting voices within the party are coming forward and added that there is a need for introspection.
BJP leader and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the Congress was almost non-existent in Tamil Nadu.
"And Mr. Elangovan's statement is only very clear that the party's arrogance in dealing with its own dissenting voices in the wane in which they are dealing with it is apparent. The party should introspect," she added.
Following the resignation of former environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan from the party, Elangovan had earlier on Friday (while referring to P. Chidambaram and his son Karti) said the Congress would be stronger if another person and his family also quit the party so that it will get cleansed.
Elangovan had also questioned the timing of Natarajan's outburst against the Congress leadership.
