Condemning yesterday's attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday assured that a fair enquiry will be held and strict action will be taken against the guilty.
"Budgam incident in Kashmir Valley is highly regrettable, a fair enquiry will be held and a strict action will be taken against those found guilty,' said Jaitley.
Four persons were yesterday injured in an attack in Budgam district, out of which two succumbed to their injuries.
An army statement released last night, had however, confirmed that no jawan was killed in the attack.
"Based on specific intelligence reports about the movement of terrorists in a white Maruti 800 Car on November 3, along Nowgam to Pulwama road, three Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) were established along the road," the statement had said.
"At approx 5 PM, a white Maruti 800 Car approached the first check point where the personnel tried to stop the car but it did not stop. Again at the second check point, a vehicle was stopped but it did not stop. At the third check point, the vehicle tried to barge through check point. This resulted into a firing incident in which four persons were injured. The injured were rushed to the Army Base Hospital, Srinagar. Two persons succumbed to their injuries and two are under treatment," it added.
The statement further said, "Army regrets loss of lives, has ordered enquiry to investigate into circumstance leading to incident. Anyone found guilty will be severely dealt with," the statement had said.
