Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for opposing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the defence sector.
Taunting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent Singapore junket, Jaitley said, "TMC opposed FDI in defense. If they are against foreign money why did they travel to Singapore?"
Upon his visit to Kolkata to meet the workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jaitley had also met Banerjee to discuss West Bengal's financial issues. He also assured that the government will make all possible efforts to resolve financial problems of the state.
Mamata Banerjee had recently gone for a five-day trip to the city state to scout for investments for her state.
TMC had been opposing the FDI since the Union Cabinet's approval to the proposal to raise the foreign direct investment (FDI) cap in the insurance sector to 49 percent from the existing 26 percent.
