The Australian Cricket Census has revealed a marked increase in the number of participants who played the game across Australia in 2012-13.
According to news.com.au, there were a record 951,933 participants during this period, which showed an increase of 8.2 percent and a further spike is expected with the Ashes.
The report said that Queensland has had the maximum increase in player numbers.
Cricket officials were disturbed by research taken three years ago that revealed the code was losing relevance among young Australians, particularly aged 5 to 15, the report said.
