Three fast-bowlers are in the race to replace James Anderson, who suffered injuries during the third Ashes Test being played at Edgbaston.
It is speculated that Mark Woods, who is presently recuperating from his ankle injury, may find a place in the playing eleven.
In case Wood is unavailable, then the selectors would be replacing Anderson in the squad with two players, Liam Plunkett and Mark Footitt, stuff.co.nz reported.
England's coach Trevor Bayliss said that they too were not sure whether Wood would replace Anderson or not and added that the two guys would get the opportunity if needed.
30-year-old right-armer Plunkett had earlier featured in England's limited-overs series against New Zealand which preceded the Ashes.
Footitt had made his first-class debut a decade ago.
The fourth Test would be held at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
