Asia Bibi, the Pakistani Christian woman who was sentenced to death after being found guilty of insulting the Prophet Mohammed four years ago, has filed a final appeal in the Supreme Court, a report said.

Her defence attorney Saiful Malook confirmed that an appeal has been filed on her behalf with the apex court on Monday. He said that the petition implores the court to consider the inconsistencies in the case including, allegedly manipulated evidence and a delay between the time of the incident and its investigation by police, reported the Dawn.

Malook remarked that the blasphemy allegation was "concocted" by Bibi's enemies to target her and had no basis in fact.

He added that they expected an early hearing of the appeal and hoped that the proceedings will be over in a year.

A high court in the city of Lahore had upheld her death sentence last month.

She has been on death row since November 2010 after being convicted of making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad during an argument with a Muslim woman over a bowl of water.
