A ten-day long army recruitment rally held in Jorhat witnessed a large turnout of youth who are keen to join the army and serve the nation from different districts Assam.
Thousands of youth from eight districts of the Upper Assam region took part in the ten day long recruitment drive.
"I have come from Bokulia in Karbi Anglong. It is my dream to join the Indian army and do something for my country. There are around 100-150 of us here and they are taking our tests properly. They are making us run short distances, which is very good," said Rajesh Ravinder, one of the candidates.
"I want to serve my nation and that is why I want to join the Indian army," said Debashish Chauhan, another candidate.
Over 250 candidates will be absorbed into different regiments of Indian Army in various categories after rigorous physical examination and a common entrance examination.
The army as well as other security forces regularly conduct such recruitment programmes in the region with an aim to increase the presence of youth from the North East in the armed forces.
