Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone for the construction of a road in the border areas of the state's Jorhat District on Tuesday.
The function was held at Nagajanka in the Mariani area of Jorhat District.
The road will connect Gahorisuva Gaon, Mariani with Sonowal Gaon. It will be constructed under the Chief Minister's Border Area Special Development Scheme.
Raju Konwar, a local resident, said: "This new road will benefit the people and students, as now they can have better communication."
The total length of the road is 23.21 kilometers, and it will include six bridges. The project cost is Rs. 20.31 crores.
Ajanta Neog, Assam's Public and Urban Development Minister, Rupjyoty Kurmi, the MLA representing Mariani, Jorhat district administration officials and local people attended the function.
